Getting closer to God is not a five-step plan we walk through and say we have finished. It is a way of life. Keep seeking to get closer and know God is moving towards you faster than you are moving toward Him. This commitment will not remove all temptation or make you perfect. When you fall, do not let the shame of sin and the lies of the enemy move you away from pursuing closeness with God.
Through confession, Bible study, prayer, regular worship in community, and obedience, we can develop a closer relationship with God. We know relationships take work. We know that we have to be honest with one another, care about the other, spend time together, and value what the other has to say. It’s not really that different with our relationship to our Heavenly Father.
When these things are a priority in your life is when you will feel closer to Him and the strength to deal with temptation and all that life brings.
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
Philippians 3:8-9 ESV
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
